AI receptionist for auto repair shops

An AI receptionist for auto repair shops, so the bay stays answered

Nobody on a lift can get to the phone, and a customer calling about a quote or whether their car is ready will try the next shop if nobody picks up. Your AI receptionist answers in your shop's name, handles the common questions, and texts you a summary.

What it handles for auto repair shops

A shop phone rings constantly with the same handful of questions, usually at the exact moment every tech has their hands on a car. An AI receptionist answers those calls instead of sending them to voicemail.

Those calls come in waves: a customer wanting a status update on a car already on the lift, another trying to book a drop-off before work, another asking if you can squeeze in a flat tire before noon. None of it waits for a free minute at the front counter.

  • Answers in your shop's name, 24 hours a day, including nights and weekends when a customer is planning tomorrow's drop-off.
  • Books appointments for drop-offs, oil changes, tire rotations and other scheduled work directly into your calendar.
  • Answers common questions: hours, location, services offered, and any starting-from pricing you give it.
  • Takes a message for anything it cannot resolve, like an exact quote or a live repair status, rather than guessing.
  • Texts you a summary of every call, so nothing gets lost in a busy service bay.

None of this means changing how your shop runs. Techs keep working on cars; the receptionist keeps the phone covered, whether that is a Tuesday lunch rush or a Saturday morning when every bay is full. A caller who would have hit voicemail gets the same greeting, the same booking option and the same follow-up text as anyone who calls during a slow afternoon.

A typical call

Here is an illustrative example of the kind of call it handles — not a real client or an actual recorded call.

A caller wants to book a drop-off for a brake inspection and asks roughly what it will cost. The AI receptionist confirms the vehicle and the concern, gives the starting-from price range you have set for a brake inspection, offers the next available drop-off slot, books it, and texts the shop: "New booking: Tuesday 8am drop-off, brake inspection, starting-from quote given." If the caller instead calls to ask whether their car already in the shop is finished, the receptionist takes a message with the best callback number, since that answer depends on what is actually happening on the lift that day.

A second example: a caller wants to book a same-day tire rotation and asks if you have anything open before 5pm. The receptionist checks the openings you have given it, books the 3:30pm slot, and texts the shop: "New booking: 3:30pm today, tire rotation." The counter never had to pick up a phone to make it happen.

What's included

The AI receptionist for auto repair shops comes bundled with the rest of the phone setup most shops need:

  • A dedicated local business phone number, or your existing number moved over
  • A professional IVR menu ("press 1 for scheduling")
  • Voicemail with email transcription
  • A mobile-first website, with hosting and SSL
  • A monthly report of your call and text activity

Pricing is being updated this month — see our current packages for the latest plans and setup fees. If after-hours calls are your biggest gap, also see our after-hours answering service.

Setup

  1. A 30-minute kickoff call with Mark. We gather your hours, services, typical pricing ranges, and the questions customers ask most.
  2. We configure and test it. We set up your number, your menu and your receptionist, then you call your own number and try to break it.
  3. We fix anything that is off and you go live, usually in about two weeks.
  4. We keep tuning it. New services, new hours, a question it should answer: text or email us and we update it.

Local, and a real person behind it

JNM Professional Services is based at 1103 Schrock Rd, Suite 106C, Columbus, OH 43229, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. When you text us, a real person answers. We work with shops across Central Ohio in person and anywhere else remotely.

Common questions

Can it actually tell a customer whether their car is ready?

Only if you give it a way to check — most shops have it take a message or transfer the call for status updates, since that changes throughout the day. It can confirm appointment times and give general information, but it does not look up live repair status unless you set that up separately.

My guys are under cars all day — will this actually get used?

That is the point of it: it answers every call that would otherwise go to voicemail while a tech is mid-job, takes the booking or the message, and texts whoever you choose a summary. Nobody has to stop what they are doing to pick up the phone.

Can it give an exact quote over the phone?

It quotes whatever you give it — a starting-from price for common jobs like oil changes or brake pads, or it can simply say a tech will call back with a quote after looking at the vehicle. For anything it is unsure of, it takes a message instead of guessing a number.

Does it know my shop's hours and services, or do I have to write scripts?

You tell us your hours, services and the questions customers ask most on one 30-minute call, and we set it up. No scripts to write.

Will it sound like a real person?

It uses a natural-sounding voice, set up with your shop's name and details, and it always tells callers it is an AI, at the start of the call and whenever asked. Calls and voicemails may be recorded or transcribed to produce your call summaries and activity reports, consistent with applicable law. Is there a contract?

No long-term contract — after the one-time setup it is month to month, and you can cancel with 30 days' notice.
